Smashing into whetted reefs, vicious wipeouts, shark attacks, and drowning in the ocean’s infinity; are just the starters on the list of dangers associated with surfing. Nonetheless, in 2018, the world of surfing came through something very unexpected. A 600-pound giant squid protruded on the surface of the ocean in Vietnam and tried to drag the paddler into the sea. The incident left the surfing community to ponder over unforeseen risks lurking beneath the salty reverie.

Infamous for their abysmal gigantism, squids usually reside in the deepness of the sea. However, five years ago, a giant squid emerged from the surface of the ocean and tried to yank a paddle-boarding surfer into the water. 

A giant squid encounter makes rather a terrifying surfing episode

In 2018, a group of surfers was paddle boarding in Vung Tau, a coastal city in Vietnam. While paddling around the sea, a giant squid emerged from the water and took one of the surfers by surprise, as the sea monster started wrapping its tentacles around the surfer’s leg. The entire surfing episode was shot by another paddler from a distance, and it soon went viral within the surfing fraternity.

In the video, the surfer can be seen acting in a reflex to save himself from the squid’s clutches. More so, the creature was weighing over 600 pounds, with a total length of 43 feet. When the monster tried to grab him by the leg, the paddler instinctively stood up on his surfboard to try and extricate himself from the squid’s tentacles. But did he get success in his attempt?

Nevertheless, as soon as he stood on his board, the sea monster came from the other side and once again tried to lay hold of the surfer’s leg. Following this, the paddle boarder spontaneously reacted to the situation and jumped right away into the water. But once again, his attempts went in vain, as the gigantic creature wasn’t ready to spare the surfer. It encircled its tentacles around the surfboard for an extended period. However, it didn’t cause any harm to the surfer or his other companions.

But, as it is not every day that the surfing fandom sees a paddler trying to rescue a sea monster, so it’s no surprise that the video caught the speed and went viral and rendered everyone astounded. Though the giant squid hasn’t posed any danger to the paddler, it indeed was one terrifying surfing episode, don’t you agree.
