“There’s Gotta Be an Answer”:11x Surfing Champ Reveals a Dark and Worrying Trend About New York Whales

Kelly Slater is not only the demigod of waves but also a great environmentalist. Whether it is promoting awareness about pollution in aquatic ecosystems or water conservation, the 11X world surf league champion always takes the front stand. Recently the 50-year-old came forward to raise his voice regarding the death of whales due to water pollution.

Recently, a Humpback whale washed ashore in New Jersey. To voice his concerns on the consecutive deaths of aquatic creatures, Slater took to his social media handle to promote awareness about the constant degradation of marine life.

A couple of hours ago, a 30-foot North Atlantic Humpback Whale drifted ashore in New Jersey’s Atlantic City. Moreover, this is the 2nd time within the span of two weeks, that a humpback whale died and came floating to the shore.

Hearing about the dead whale, Slater took to his Instagram story to re-post the bad news with his fans. Captioning the story, Slater penned, “5th dead/beached whale in 2 weeks in NJ/NY area”. Raising his concerns, the 50-year-old further added, “There’s gotta be an answer”.

Clearly, as an environmentalist, the surfing champion felt his responsibility to promote awareness about the detrimental conditions of marine life.

It was not the first time when Slater raised his concerns regarding environmental issues. As a professional surfer, Slater shares a close-knit relationship with the ocean. The 50-year-old is an active member of the Ocean Advocacy Advisory Board and he actively participates in various campaigns organized by Reef Check, in order to protect coral reefs.

Moreover, Slater has his own foundation, i.e, ‘The Kelly Slater Foundation’, which raises funds to protect oceanic wildlife and other environment-related issues. Evidently, Kelly Slater is a staunch champion, both in the surfing arena and outside of it.
