Off-roading on a coastline and chasing thrills along the beach with a quad bike, indeed sounds fun, right? For a 32-year-old man, however, the quad bike adventure turned out to be fatal. Diego Barria, an Argentinian man, was recently riding across a stretch of coastline, when he became the target of an unfortunate accident.

On 18th February, Diego Barria set off for a thrilling quad bike ride to the southern province of Chubut, Argentina. Barria then disappeared, rendering his family in oblivion of his whereabouts. However, two days later, his family received the news of his location. But, the update did not bring better news for quad biker’s loved ones.

Quad biker fell prey to a ferocious shark attack

As per the report of Telegraph, following his disappearance, Barria’s wife, Virginia, started sending frenzied messages on her Facebook handle, appealing to her husband to get in touch. Unfortunately, all her attempts went in vain. Two days later, the ruins of the quad biker’s helmet and the damaged colossus of his Yamaha Raptor were found on a beach near Rocas Coloradas.

On the weekend following his disappearance, a pair of locals went fishing and hauled three sharks out of the ocean. When the fishermen cut those sharks open for cleaning purposes, they found human remains inside one of the predators. A police official involved in the case said, “when they were cleaning (the sharks) they found human remains in one of them”. The next thing that happened was indeed very disturbing for Barria’s family.

Barria’s relatives then confirmed that the remains belonged to the quad biker. They approved the fact by recognizing “a tattoo that appeared in one of those remains”. It indeed was a painful accident for the family to relate. The police authorities conceded that a strong tidal surge on the day of his adventure dragged him out to sea, and he eventually become prey to the predators. 

This theory is backed up by Jose Mazzei, a civil protection official. He mentioned to the Argentinian media, that the 32-year-old probably fell unconscious on the coast after being pushed into the sea by a high tide. This made him an easy target for the sharks. Nonetheless, the remains will undergo DNA testing for final confirmation. It truly was a tragedy in disguise, don’t you agree?
