American swimmer, Michael Phelps was a wonder to fans and more importantly, a good friend to his fellows. Speaking of which, his recent heartfelt gesture towards his co-athlete and good friend, Ryan Lochte depicted their like-minded equation. Although quite shockingly, the duo’s great friendship started off from a pool of rivalry.

Ryan Lochte’s impromptu surprise 

Olympian Ryan Lochte recently took to Instagram to thank American swimming prodigy and friend, Michael Phelps. Reportedly, he sent Lochte a brand new golf kit from a well-known brand, True Spec Golf. Upon receiving the present, Lochte was absolutely ecstatic. He put up a story on his social media while appreciating the stunning golf clubs.

In the Instagram story, Lochte said, “So I recently went to True Spec Golf and I got fitted for my actual clubs. I guess I’ve been playing with the wrong ones this whole time but… I’ve been waiting so long… Cool!” Additionally, his caption to the story read, “I’ve been waiting very patiently for these. Thank you @truespecgolf and @m_phelpsoo”

Ryan Lochte Finally Reveals the Strategy He Used to Defeat the Legendary Michael Phelps

However, the 38-year-old’s excitement didn’t go unanswered. The great Olympian reshared Lochte’s story and added a cheering note to it. The caption read, “Enjoy dude!! Can’t wait to get out and play!!” The athletic duo often gets together for golf matches. Hence, the surprise gift was really thoughtful addition to Lochte’s sporting spree.

How Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte put an end to their rivalry

According to a Reuters article, the ‘happily ever after’ began after their 200m medley at the U.S. Olympic trials prior to the Rio Olympics, in 2016. Unsurprisingly, Phelps aced the race in a few seconds. However, he told sources, “Ryan and I always have great races with one another.”

The legend was to retire post the Rio Olympics, and hence, it is easy to imagine why he pitched in to end the competitive conflict. Phelps added, “Him and I have been racing since 2004 and think when we race each other we bring each other to a different level. We take each other to that next step.” It was rather an emotional affair for the two, post the Olympics. 

Friends or foes, both spectacular athletes contributed significantly to the history of sports. Their iconic rivalry as well as seamlessly coordinated teamwork set a benchmark.
