“Can Literally Do It in My Sleep”: Michael Phelps Is Taking Forward His Swimming Career in Another Field

After years of swimming inside the pool, Michael Phelps retired after the 2016 Rio Olympics. Since then, he has taken care of his family while enjoying better things in life. Thus, it is amazing of him to embrace life after years of hard work and sacrifice. Now, he has taken over a new sport. The sport of golf seems fascinating to him, and he got a mentor to help him understand the game. 

 

With his supremacy in the swimming pool, Phelps mastered the ins and outs of the game. Channelizing those tips to golf helped him, and he loves the game. Regularly playing in competitions, Phelps loves the sport and looks to find success in it. But, all of it came from his mentoring.

Michael Phelps’ gets his golf tips

He recently appeared at the Icon Series and tested his golf skills on the golf course. Explaining that, he focused on swimming to assist him while playing golf. Fair to say, it is working wonders. He described how Mike Abbott helped him study the game by making him know about his strengths and weaknesses.

“The best way I can explain the game has been through swimming. A guy I work with, Mike Abbott, compares it to what I was doing in the pool, and body position. For me, that’s all I know. I mean I can literally do it in my sleep,” said Phelps, who appears to love the sport. Body position is crucial for a golfer and is the same for a swimmer. A straight body helps to push through the water and gain an advantage over your competitors.

Mike Abbott is famous for believing in golfers and improving steadily. He thinks understanding their weakness can help golfers improve a lot better. After analyzing those weaknesses, Abbott helps to train them and improve their game. Phelps is looking to improve steadily. He also held a unique record.  

The longest putt on TV

He once held the record for the longest televised putt in golf. It happened at the 2012 Dunhill Links. On the short par-4 sixth at Kingsbarns, Phelps rolled in a massive 159feet putt to the amazement of other players. The announcers could not believe that the ball rolled into the hole. It was a remarkable moment. 

 

Therefore, he is now enjoying his time on the golf course. Phelps is a legendary swimmer, and golf appears to creep its way into his long list of personal talents. The image of Phelps appearing for the Masters will be a sight to behold. Do you think he should train more and enroll in events?
