“I Think That It’s His Legacy”: Michael Phelps’ Wife Nicole Johnson Reveals How They Used to Handle Their Kids While Handling Mental Health

The 35-year-old former swimmer Michael Phelps has been open about his struggle with mental health. He has previously revealed how it has affected his three kids with his wife Nicole Johnson, with whom he tied the knot in 2016.

Phelps and Nicole are proud parents of 6-year-old Boomer, 4-year-old Beckett, and 2-year-old Maverick. Michael has been busy taking care of his kids after he retired from swimming. But has struggled with many health issues.

Michael Phelps’ health effect on his kids

Michael Phelps has shared his story of fighting depression. But suffering from mental health issues and handling a family is not an easy task. During an interview with Carson Daly, Nicole and Phelps revealed how they used to deal with kids. Nicole said, “I think this mental health fight is I think that it’s his legacy. It will be greater because of the passion that he has.”

On this, Daly told Nicole that he couldn’t do that without her. Then he questioned her how she discussed this issue with her kids she replied, “I’m very vocal in making sure that kids are aware that maybe Michael is having a rough day, especially boomer, as he gets older. It’s important for a boomer to learn that it’s not about him and that he didn’t do something that made daddy feel this way. It’s daddy having his own stuff. We do as best we possibly can to get the boys to express.”

Then Nicole explained how difficult it is for a child to understand his mental state. She said it’s hard to say what kids think because of their age. But she has ensured that her kids can differentiate between their feelings and what is right or wrong.

For sure, Nicole and Phelps are good at parenting because they are making their children aware of mental health.
