In fact, during the 200-meter freestyle NCAA championships, Gaines tied with Thomas for fifth place and felt disappointed with the outcome. The college athlete has been in the news for stating that Lia Thomas’ ‘biological advantage’ was unfair towards other women. However, she had her fair share of support.

Sullivan, a silver medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, explained her reasons for supporting Thomas. “Like anyone else in this sport, Lia doesn’t win every time. And when she does, she deserves, like anyone else in this sport, to be celebrated for her hard-won success, not labeled a cheater simply because of her identity,” said Sullivan.

Gaines unhappy with the proceedings

During an episode of “Tucker Carlson Today,” she discussed the various experiences she felt when she raced with Thomas. She said, “So not only were we forced to race against a male, we were forced to change in the locker room with one. Then we’re sitting there not even knowing who to talk to, who to complain to, because this kind of all happened behind the scenes and very discreetly,” mentioned Gaines.
