The unpredictable and creative jab from Lyles comes just after the national team of the USA got beaten by Germany. The German side defeated the USA by 113-111 and claimed the FIBA World Cup. The team’s loss highlighted Lyles’ words even further as the USA basketball were defeated in an actual world championship. Even the official Instagram handle of World Athletics took a dig at NBA by posting a meme. The meme showed the score of 113-111, with Lyles’ statement below, claiming, “World Champion of what?” Social media has been sent into a fresh frenzy after the fresh jibe and fans are eager to see what unfolds further. While everyone in the NBA is looking at Lyles with scorn, the Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo has a different view.

Antetokounmpo sides with Lyles
Giannis Antetokounmpo recently appeared on the 48 Minutes podcast and said that he agrees with Noah Lyles’ words. According to him, “I think Germany won the World Cup, correct? Yeah, so Germany can say we are the World Champs. I think they beat the USA team, correct? Then they beat the Serbian team. Man, I might get some backlash for this, but I really do not care. I totally agree with him (Noah Lyles)”. Several NBA supporters like Stephen Smith vouched for the NBA’s world champion claim on the shoulders of Antetokounmpo. However, he doesn’t agree with them.

Antetokounmpo is a force to be reckoned with in the NBA. He is a 2x NBA MVP and granted Milwaukee Bucks its second title win after a drought of 50 years. While he plays, lives and breathes for the NBA, he is not a man who can look the other way. In fact, several fans see a lot of similarities between Antetokounmpo and Lyles, especially during interviews. The defeat of Team USA at the FIBA World Cup does not help the case for the NBA. The team will now look towards Paris to redeem itself.
