Gone are those days when Usain Bolt dominated the track and field events. It is now a distant memory. Enter the new man in town; Lamont Marcell Jacobs. The Italian sensation is a tremendous sprinter, as he returned to the outdoor tracks after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He won the recent 100-meters race at the meet in Savona. Despite that, he remains disappointed with his performance, aiming to get faster.

Likewise, Jacobs pulled out of the race because of intestinal problems at the 2022 Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi. Thus, coming back to his first race over the distance, he spoke of having room for improvement in the future. Keeping focused on the 2022 World Athletics Championships, he is a man on a mission.

Lamont Marcell Jacobs looks to improve his pace

Back in Japan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he won the 100-meters race by setting 9.80 seconds; the first winner in 12 years since Bolt retired in 2016. As the world’s fastest man came back to put on a show, he finished by setting 10.04 seconds in Savona, a time much lesser than the previous one from Tokyo. Likewise, he posted a time of 9.99 in the heat while Jacobs opened up on his recent struggles.

“I thought I could do a bit better to be honest. In terms of technique I wasn’t myself out there… It was a race in which I felt held back somehow,” said Jacobs to the reporters. Although this was the first outdoor race, Jacobs had returned for the World Indoor 60m gold in Belgrade. During that event, he won the race with a stacked lineup as he defeated USA’s, Christian Coleman. The 60-yard dash saw Jacobs sprinting past the finishing line with great aplomb.

The Ferrari from Italy

“I finished the indoor season as world champion. Let’s hope we can do the same again,” replied Jacobs to claims of becoming the new indoor 100-meter champion. As Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman are getting ready for the Worlds, Jacobs looks confident to raise his game. He is the best in what he does, and the dark horse from Italy has unfinished business.
