“I Am Such a Failure”: Bruce Lee’s Daughter Always Felt Short of Living Up to Her Father’s Immortal Legacy

Being a child of someone who has been popular and a master of his field definitely has some higher expectations than compared to others. For Shannon Lee, that pressure was exceeded after being raised by the legendary Bruce Lee. As Bronny James is becoming an able basketball player following his father’s footsteps, Shannon proceeded in a different direction. But, there is never a moment she fails to talk about her father’s legacy and how it daunts her.

  

In a recent podcast, she opened up about her struggles to match her father’s legacy. For years, Bruce Lee entertained people with his swift movements and wild agility, doing flips and tricks. Despite his son following a similar career path, Shannon always said, “I have many a time in my life been like, ‘Oh my god, I’m such a failure compared to him.'”

Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, struggles to meet expectations!

In the podcast, she recalls a funny conversation with strangers enquiring about her work status. “So people are like, ‘What do you do?'”, a general question, always put forward to her. But, whenever she revealed her career, raised eyebrows greeted her.

“It is like one of the first questions people ask you in a conversation with a stranger, and I’m like, ‘I run a licensing business. Oh, wait, only license?'”, she said. Understanding Bruce Lee and his rich legacy, the expectations rose upon her to match that stardom. However, she kept such things aside.

She continued, “And I think the only thing that became weird about it for me was that I was hiding something. And typically you hide something when there is something about it that you’re kinda ashamed of.”

Shannon Lee acted in many movies, including Bruce Lee’s Biopic

Similar to her father, Shannon acted in several movies. She played a small role in her father’s biopic, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, played a part with Lou Ferrigno in Cage 2, High Voltage, and many more. The martial arts run in the family with her brilliant action sequences in several of her movies. Learning her father’s Jeet Kune Do, she too got into the roots of the martial artist’s prominence to fame.
