Collegiate volleyball in the USA offers some of the best career options for budding players. And yet, going back to the roots seems like an impossible line to break for many despite finding incredible love and support across the country. Marta Levinska has had a brilliant time playing for Arizona State’s Sun Devils for over four seasons and in 2023 emerged as one of the country’s best volleyball players. After ASU’s exit from the NCAA Sweet 16, the Latvian native is now eyeing to make her next career step closer to home.

In recently surfaced news, the outside hitter has signed a professional deal with PTT SPOR in Ankara Turkey. PTT women’s volleyball is currently the month among 14 teams. The Turkic team looks to need extra talent in its roster and Lavinska might be the missing piece the team needs.

Sun Devil volleyball icon to return to familiar waters

Marta Lavinska stepped on the Arizona campus after transferring from her high school in Riga and since then established herself as a force to be reckoned with. She ended her collegiate career with the best season yet and led the team with 571 kills. With the statistic, Levinska also etched her name in the Sun Devils’ history book as the 4th highest kills in a single season. Now, Sun Devil Volleyball announced Levinska’s decision to depart from the USA in a post on X.

“Pro Devil“, states the post, indicating Levinska’s start of her professional journey in new pastures. Levinksa will spend the second half of this season as part of the Turkish club Ankara PTT. The 2023 AVCA All-Region team member will look to bring her talents overseas to help her new squad out of the difficult times.

Before coming to the US, Levinska represented the Latvian National Team and even was named the best player of the Baltic League at the age of 18. She also led her team to their first-ever gold in the 2019/20 season before committing to the Sun Devils. Meanwhile, the volleyball realm of the USA is also heating up.

America’s pro league to start its journey

While Levinska decides to pursue her professional career in Europe, women’s volleyball in America is also gearing up for its pro league. League One Volleyball (LOVB) was announced a few years back by the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) and has stirred up a lot of discussions among fans since.

The nascent league recently received support from the national volleyball body and is waiting to offer retired collegiate players a chance to realize their full potential once again. With investors flocking in to get a piece of the action, it remains to be seen how the new league makes its first impression.
