A woman in Australia once revealed that she was booted from her gym on a horrific note. Why? Because apparently, she was dressed ‘inappropriately’ and was revealing her skin a tad too much. This was implied by the gym owner and an alleged high-school teacher who weren’t content with her gym apparel.

The 21st century is at its pace, with the greatest developments taking place every moment. Consequently, there is also a list of alarming issues to be tackled. But the question here is, is women’s choice of clothing one of them? Or that, how much skin is too much skin?

Gabi Goddard’s horrific encounter at the gym.

According to an article by Muscle and Fitness, an Australian woman, Gabi Goddard, was asked to leave the premises of her gym on account of a rather absurd reason in 2020. The Sydney resident reported the gym as Hornsby 24/7 Gym. The impromptu incident took place when a member of the staff approached her and suggested that she change her clothes if she wished to continue her workout session. 

“Today I was asked to leave my gym and ‘change because a school teacher (who was supervising teenage students) had a problem with this outfit and complained”, Gabi’s social media caption read. However, she even went on to explain the reason for her clothes that day in her social media update. Elaborating on the allegations, the 29-year-old woman’s gym apparel was sought as inappropriate by a high-school teacher guiding a bunch of teenagers present at the gym. Gabi further communicated this to the gym owner.

Goddard, absolutely enraged, wrote a letter to the school’s principal highlighting the teacher’s conduct. “I am horrified that your school has say over the clothing choices (and freedom to exercise) of an independent woman”, her letter read.

Surprisingly, it was later found out that even though the teacher did find Gabi’s clothes to be ‘inappropriate’, he didn’t ask for them to be changed. As a matter of fact, the gym owner himself approached the high-school supervisor for compliance with his opinions. And later on, decided to convey to Gabi that she was showing too much skin and further asked her to leave. Horrified by the incident, Goddard switched gyms in addition to addressing the issue on her social media which led to a range of reactions from her followers. 

Throwing light on the real issue, Goddard who works as an actress and writer, confessed that she was wearing her gym shorts inside out. Hence, it seemed as if she had worn her underwear on top of her shorts, making it look ‘inappropriate’ as per the stakeholders. She in turn, was unable to comprehend the heart of the issue.

As cliché as it may sound, this incident vividly outlines the status of women by societal standards. Women’s clothes have always been a debatable topic. Such a mess of a fallacy, wasn’t it? Let us know what you thought of the incident.
