Freestyle skiing, on the other hand, is the more recreational side of the sport and is done mostly by skiers as a passion. Since freestyle skiing often takes place on a snow-covered mountain, the only possible route is the track, which may or may not contain natural marvels such as little gravel and enormous pine trees, as well as some other skiers on the same track. A recent casualty on the slopes at a well-known ski area in the United States is a prime example of this phenomenon.

Fox 13 Now reported that an elderly man, has just passed away at the famed Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville, Utah. A second skier and the 82-year-old, crashed into each other, leading to the fatal collision.

A devasting skiing incident

A typical Sunday at the famed ski resort saw many skiers out for a weekend fun. Unfortunately for this 82-year-old, who crashed with another rider at the resort, it was his final time ever skiing. Immediately upon hearing of the accident, the ski patrol arrived to provide help. Fox 13 Now reports that despite the team’s best efforts, the elderly guy tragically lost his life in the accident. However, the other rider involved fortunately got out with minor injuries.

Post the incident, the Snowbasin team issued a statement in which they expressed their sincere sympathies to the guest’s family, saying, “The Snowbasin team is heartbroken by this loss and offers their deepest condolences to the guest’s family, and all involved.” Weber Fire District authorities reviewed all files following the event and noted that the 82-year-old skier had died from cardiac arrest.

Although this unfortunate 82-year-old man experienced the exhilaration of skiing down a snowy mountain at great speed, he also experienced the perils that come with the sport. While his family mourns his loss, the authorities are yet to determine if the cardiac arrest was caused by the accident or another factor.
