“Everybody knew it was the end, but it’s also the end for now.” This is how renowned TV director Declan Lowney described the ending of the popular American comedy-drama television series Ted Lasso, starring Jason Sudeikis. After being introduced in August 2020 with ten episodes on AppleTV+, the beloved American football coach-turned-soccer manager of AFC Richmond quickly won the hearts of viewers across the world. So Coach Lasso and his ragtag group of soccer underdogs returned the following year in July, and once more in a third installment in March 2023 with 12 episodes, which was touted as the final run. Even if fans hoped for a fourth season with a potential spin-off, it was eventually deemed as a temporary end. “It’s going to be two or three years before anything happens — if anything happens,” further added Lowney about the show.
Fast forward to today, boy was the director right as Ted Lasso is officially making his way for the fourth season. It came following a recent announcement from Apple, stating the work is in progress over the launch of the next chapter of its sought-after soccer-based original series. This only brings up the question of when exactly the new TV series will be launched.

When will the fourth season of Ted Lasso get released?
The announcement of Ted Lasso getting Season 4 from Apple TV+ is indeed a melody to everyone’s ears. However, no official confirmation regarding the release date has been issued. Heck, even a trailer or a teaser is yet to be unveiled by the makers of the 13X Emmy award-winning show. For now, the focus would be on bringing back the cast, inaugurating the writer’s room, and more formalities.
Though not officially confirmed, Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) are expected to be retained by the producers for their evergreen roles. But it is confirmed that Jason Sudeikis will be an executive producer alongside Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Even writer and producer Jack Burditt also joins this exclusive list.
But sadly, one fan-favorite character won’t be appearing in Season 4. According to Matthew Belloni of Puck News, Phil Dunster—who plays Jamie Tartt for AFC Richmond—won’t be returning. This shocking absence is allegedly due to scheduling issues. It seems Dunster is quite committed to his other two projects: The Devil’s Hour on Prime Video and Surface on Apple TV+.
Then again, on the overall front, if everything goes to plan accordingly, that too, with proper timing, filming is going to take at least a year to finish. So it’d probably not be wise to expect the new season before next year. For now, both Warner Bros. Television and Apple TV will be looking to complete all the necessities to kickstart the production. But while Ted Lasso may take a while to get back to coaching a pro team again, the fan in him does not seem to be taking a break.
Ted Lasso arrives in Kansas City as NWSL’s Current gets surprise backing
Yes, you read that right. Jason Sudeikis, or Ted Lasso, was spotted in Kansas City earlier this weekend supporting none other than KC Current. The American actor came to support the National Women’s Soccer League side for their Matchday 8 clash against Bay FC on Saturday afternoon and also to shout “KC Baby!”
What’s your perspective on:
Ted Lasso's back! Is Jason Sudeikis the hero women's soccer needs right now?
Have an interesting take?
Glimpses were shared on X, with Sudeikis posing with the team’s star players as well as a caption saying, “We believe in believe,” a hilarious nod to the show. Furthermore, during the game, as Temwa Chawinga scored the fourth goal to end the day with a 4-1 win, Sudeikis celebrated the goal by giving a standing ovation.
We believe in believe.

Honestly, the renowned actor cheering for KC Current is only fitting, considering how the end of season three saw him return to Kansas to further raise his son, with Coach Beard tying the knot. In fact, Declan Lowney also described that fans can expect Ted Lasso to coach a football league team back in the American state.
Even the actor then suggested that several supporting characters were left with unfinished stories by the end of the show, hinting that there’s potential for their narratives to be explored further. “Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” he said at the time.

More recently, Nick Mohammed fueled the excitement around Ted Lasso’s potential return. Teasing a few storylines during his appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, he said, “I know what has come out in the press. But I think it’s fine to say that I did know that before, so I know that it’s about Ted coming back and coaching the women’s football team.”
When further asked if Lasso would make a return to his familiar surroundings, but in a slightly unique role, Mohammed said, “At Richmond. That’s definitely come out,” as compiled by Goal.com. Now it is true that Season 3 concluded with a natural ending, but from the looks of it, things certainly aren’t over yet.
After all, how could the show producers not continue building a unique narrative of a show that has cemented itself as a comedy-cultural sensation? Not to mention how it dominated the 2021 Emmys. While Sudeikis won the Best Actor award, Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein took home Best Supporting Actress and Actor. Overall, they have managed to sweep over 13 Emmy titles.

Even the series clinched its hands on the Best Comedy title. Hence, it’s only natural for Ted Lasso makers to make the most of the upcoming season. Whether the Declan Lowney-directed show will make the bold choice to reintegrate Lasso into AFC Richmond or shift him into more of a behind-the-scenes role remains highly anticipated. Perhaps Sudeikis will be coaching a women’s team this time.
