The Tokyo Olympics 2020 have officially begun. Kicking off the action in the tennis events, Spain’s Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro took on Belgium’s Elise Mertens and Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round of the women’s doubles. It was the Spanish pair that overcame the Belgian obstacle, winning the match 6-3 7-6(4).

In the seventh game of the set, Mertens and Uytvanck broke back. However, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity and were broken back in the very next game.

Set 2: The Spaniards too composed for the Belgians
In the following set, the Belgian pair began proceedings and held serve. At 2-2, the Spaniards did cause some trouble to their opponents, but the Belgians did well to hold serve.
The Spanish pair applied further pressure soon later and got the much-needed break in the seventh game. They soon consolidated the break by holding serve to make it 5-3. In the end, they won the set 7-6(4).

With the Spaniards starting the Games on a positive note, it will be interesting to see how they fare in the upcoming rounds when to competition gets tougher.
