Veteran tennis star Venus Williams shared a moving post on her Instagram handle, detailing her dreams and struggles and the thoughts and ideas that went into the launching of topcourt.com.
The portal, owned by the seven-time Grand Slam champion, presents an online forum for some of the game’s biggest stars, both past and present, to share their experiences as well as ideas and techniques to excel in the game.

In a long note tagged with her image on the Instagram post, the former World Number 1 reflects on the people she “loved and looked up to” in her early years in the game and the ones who inspired her to “dream big”.

She then goes on to mention the unstinted support and motivation from her sister and 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, and the “harrowing experiences” of their father Richard Williams that went into making her the player that she is today.

Venus Williams said champions who have lived through the unimaginable are the best teachers in the game
On the idea behind launching the tennis coaching portal, Venus said there are no better teachers than the one who have lived through hard days and overcome grave odds to become some of the biggest champions in the game.
“Knowledge is a power that enables us all to achieve and there’s no better teacher than those who have lived the unimaginable,” Venus wrote.
She added that her venture is aimed at pushing “this global movement of empowerment” and inspiring the future generations of tennis superstars.
On the career front, Venus’ campaign at this year’s Australian Open ended in the second round as she was beaten in straight sets by Italian Sara Errani.

Her commanding win over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in the opening round had raised visions of the veteran making it to the business-end of the tournament. However, the 40-year-old Venus couldn’t stand up to the challenge posed by the Italian.
She also suffered ankle and knee injuries during her second-round clash and could barely go through the motions in the latter stages of the match.
