Pinot has had an esteemed career with iconic highs and lows. The highs include multiple France stage wins where he conquered Alpe d’Huez and the Col du Tourmalet. However, his later career was marred by injuries forcing him out of successive Tours. However, this was shadowed by a Monument triumph in Lombardia itself in 2018.

Plans for the Last Race

Madiot is seemingly looking forward to good and beautiful moments in Lombardy. “To be present at Lombardy is to bring a beautiful image to an end. We’re here to celebrate, we’re here together,” he added. The same fans that lined the Petit Ballon for Pinot will meet him again on the route from Como to Bergamo. They have planned to send Pinot off to retirement together. Originally, the meeting at Petit Ballon was their final dance with Pinot, but it went so well that they followed him to Lombardy.
