Mischa Bredewold and Lorena Wiebes secured the first two positions securing gold and silver, respectively. Kopecky after a tough competition settled for bronze. She completed an SD Worx 1-2-3 at the 129.6km race after Bredewold.
According to reports, after the race was over, she stated that she could do nothing more against the strongest team in the race. She said to Het Nieuwsblad, “I looked around and saw that there were three Dutch women riding around me. Then I knew enough.”
Kopecky narrated her thoughts about the race, “I might have responded to Mischa, but Mischa would never have teamed up with me and if we were caught then the next Dutch rider wouldn’t have worked.”. She further continued to narrate how she managed to secure the bronze, “So, I chose to do as little as possible, save my legs and gamble on my sprint in the hope that everything would still come together. But it didn’t.” Kopecky praised her competitors saying, “The Dutch team played it perfectly this time.”
Cycling’s final and finest hour
Bredewold went solo for a remarkable journey of 10 km. The pair finished the race a few seconds after Bredewold. Kopecky also mentioned how the blow was softened by her not finishing in the second position. It somewhat made it more bearable for her to accept that she couldn’t catch the winner.

Kopecky stated, “It eases the pain a bit.” She said, “Of course, I would have preferred to win but a podium finish is always nice. Just because I’m at the start somewhere these days doesn’t mean I win.”
The Dutch dominance reigned supreme in the UEC Road European Championships. Thus, it proved to be a battleground for Kopecky.
In today’s highly competitive world, people rarely get the chance to show humility. The world nowadays fixates on victory at any cost, but Kopecky was gracious enough to accept the bronze with all the honor and respect. Her journey truly will stand as a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship.
