Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro has unexpectedly turned into a battlefield sounding like a page ripped from the script of a football-themed comedy movie. Chaos unfolded at the beach as two football fan bases of rival teams namely Boca Juniors and Fluminense clashed before the much-awaited Copa Libertadores final reminding of the WWE ring.

Violent altercation between football fans unfolds at the beach

A recent video posted on November 3 by the official handle of All About Argentina on Twitter captures the turbulent scene on the beautiful shores of Copacabana Beach. As fans of Boca Juniors and Fluminense flock together, they find themselves engaged in a brawl. 

Based on the reports of the Daily Mail, the beach that has been designated as a ‘fan zone’ prompted police intervention to restore order. They sprang into action arresting an Argentina Boca Juniors fan for throwing bottles at the police and detaining another fan for assaulting a dog and attempting to attack another supporter.

The video footage shows a swarm of people peacefully walking on the beach suddenly getting engulfed in the brawl. Since the video was captured from afar, it was difficult to confirm whether the physical confrontation was a targeted attack or an incident where one group of fans instigated another.

In the meantime, the Twitter video within a few hours received 251.6K views with the fans expressing their rage in the comments.

One of the fans expressed his disgust for the change in sportsman spirit, “Horrible, Horrible, horrible This is not what football is about”.

Another fan raised concern about the derogatory action attached to the sport, “This is not good for football”.

Failing to believe the outcome, a fan shared disbelief, Damn are they sick ? It’s just a ball”

The prevalence of intolerance on the beach is pointed out in the comment, “Why would you ever attack people just because they support a different team? Can’t get behind that”

The repulsive visuals from the brawl made a fan comment, “Sickening”.

Surpassing the turbulent events that followed their arrival in Brazil, Boca Juniors are all geared up to take to the field giving a head-to-head contest in the Copa Libertadores final set to take place at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

As both teams are vying for the coveted spot, grabbing the Copa Libertadores title, it brings into the limelight the intense emotions and rivalry that the sport of football can evoke. Amidst the confusion, the football fans hope that during the final both set of supporters exhibit their dedication in a peaceful manner safeguarding the gamesmanship of football.
