A hiking stroll down a park turned out to be fatal for a 67-year-old woman. She enjoyed her best times while admiring the red foliage in Tai Lam Country Park in Hong Kong. The tragedy struck on December 27, Wednesday, when she fell to death amidst the scenic trails. 

Hiker undergoes fatal fall after losing steps

Known for its picturesque settings, adorned with the changing colors of the trees, Tai Lam Country Park in the New Territories is a popular spot among hikers. But the park witnessed a daunting incident when a hiker lost her life after falling down stairs.

Accompanied by her friend, the police were alerted at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As per the reports, the hiker was en route to witness the stunning red foliage when she stumbled on the stairs. Failing to maintain her balance, she underwent a fall that claimed her life. 

It had been found out that the women reportedly grappled with underlying medical conditions. She fell and collapsed while she was ascending the flight of stairs that came along the way of the hiking trail. Authorities swiftly reported the scene and the woman was transported to Pok Oi Hospital where she was declared dead shortly after arrival at around 1:30 p.m.    

Unfortunate incidents amidst the park’s winter allure 

Since the hiker had underlying medical issues, it might have been a contributing factor to the woman’s death. As a result of this, to ensure there has been no involvement of any foul play, the authorities have announced the execution of a detailed autopsy to find out the cause that led to her untimely demise.

Tai Lam Country Park’s allure during the winter months draws nature enthusiasts and hikers from around the world. Among all the routes, the Tai Tong section is popular among hikers especially between November and January because of its breathtaking view. It witnessed an impressive influx of visitors that amounted to nearly a thousand hikers traversing through the route on Christmas Day alone. 

However, this was not the first time the park became a seat for tragedy. Previously, in the year 2017, on September 25, a 60-year-old man died while hiking through the Yuen Long stretch. The hikers who accompanied him performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but failed to revive him.

The unfortunate incident in the Hong Kong park exposes the ruthless side of natural settings. Hence, the hiker and the adventure enthusiasts are responsible for taking necessary precautions while traversing through an enchanting landscape. It is important to adhere to one’s safety by not surrendering fully to the splendor.
