The 12-year-old boy, Uri, was enjoying his hike with his family around the Tel Afek area in Israel often referred to as the green lung of the Dan region. However, the mesmerizing journey was cut short when the boy had to be rushed to the hospital followed by a snake bite. The article accounts for the details of the incident and the aftermath.

An unexpected encounter before a shocking sting

The incident unfolded when the boy was traversing engrossed in the breathtaking landscape accompanied by his family. When he was walking barefoot over a pile of dry leaves, the boy had a sensation of a strong sting on his foot and cried out confirming that he had been bitten by something.

As reported by Israel National News, in an interview with Channel 12 News the boy’s mother said, “My husband came to him and they saw a relatively small snake near Uri’s leg. Uri understood this and immediately said it was a viper.”

On identifying the snake to be a viper, the boy’s father came to his aid and took the charge to neutralize the viper with his shoe ensuring that the snake posed no further threat. Even though the little boy exhibited no apparent symptoms, his family decided to take caution beforehand.

Monitoring and care continues

The young boy was promptly transported to the Schneider Children’s Hospital. He received painkillers to reduce the discomfort he felt caused by the snake bite. Although there is not much information about his condition, Dr. Ron Berant, a practicing expert at the emergency medical center gave insights about the condition of the young boy.

The patient was reported to be in good condition, however, to confirm his stability, he will be kept under observation to ensure that the swelling is not spreading to other areas and to keep the side effects under control.

Dr. Berant proceeded to enlighten about the immediate medical attention. It is advisable to make the victims first lie down, dress the affected area, and seek medical assistance at the earliest. Furthermore, if it is safe to capture the snake, it should be brought to the medical team to invigorate the identification process and quicken the treatment proceedings accordingly.

Although vipers are venomous, at times they fail to inject venom into the victim’s body and these are referred to as “dry bites”. This reveals the complexity of snake behavior while the incident raises concern about the importance of safety measures that must be adhered to while enjoying the outdoors.
