A unique harmony of music and ice emerged last month during Dartmouth’s Big Green game that took place in December. The rising Canadian pop sensation, Tate McRae, yet again made it to the spotlight. This time, however, it is not because of her enticing solo performances. She traversed beyond melodies and stepped into the adrenaline-fueled game of ice hockey.

With her appearance at the game, in support of her hockey-player brother, McRae wove a narrative between the strums of guitar strings and the echoes of hockey skates gliding across the ice. Being deeply connected to the pulse of hockey through her brother, she shares a remarkable bond with Tucker McRae, who is a rising star in the ice hockey. Even though the familial ties between Tate and Tucker were not known by many, her appearance at the hockey game confirmed the news

The two siblings started their professional journey by choosing different paths. Her place in the music scene burgeoned with her debut single in 2017, it was much later in 2020 that McRae blossomed into fame with the release of “You Broke Me First”. On the other hand, Tucker McRae carved his path on the hockey rink by representing Dartmouth College’s Big Green. During his freshman season, he soared to success after being able to contribute both offensively and defensively and later became the captain of Okotoks Oilers.

Speculation of McRae’s intrinsic connection with the ice hockey sport continued when she unveiled her much-anticipated sophomore album, ‘Think Later’ on December 8. Her appearance on the album cover had been enough to hint at NHL fans since the pop star was seen donning hockey pads.

During the release party arranged for the album, Tate McRae with full enthusiasm struck a pose with a Zamboni, an ice-surfacer that plays a crucial role in smoothening the icy rinks. On close inspection, NHL fans noticed an All-Star logo that the Zamboni displayed.

In the song “Calgary”, the lyric referencing exposes the sibling dynamics and her close bond with her brother. Tate McRae’s music video for “Greedy” featuring a hockey rink demonstrates her deep-rooted connection to the sport through the visual spectacle.

The shared journey of the McRae siblings resonates with a harmonious blend of music and ice hockey. Captivating the audience globally with her tunes, her shared love for the sport crafted a resonant narrative that spans both the music charts and the hockey arena.
