The Inaugural Indian MotoGP was a memorable one indeed! The sprint race prompted participation from the best racers across the world. While things seemed rather touch-and-go for a while, it was Marco Bezzecchi who ultimately took gold at the Buddh International Circuit in round 13 of 20.
The races that took place on Saturday and Sunday were shortened due to hot and humid conditions. However, while the weather was hot, what was even hotter was Japanese rider Ayumu Sasaki’s bike after it crashed and went up in flames. Saki lost control after skidding on turn 3. As he hastily dismounted, the bike caught ablaze and flames covered it not long after.

Ayumu Sasaki had a very close brush with a fatal accident. As his bike crashed and burned, Sasaki was able to escape the flames without any injuries. Much to the relief, and then amazement of his team, Sasaki calmly drove back to his pit and continued the race like nothing had changed. What’s even more impressive is that he finished third in the second qualifying round.
VIDEO: Multiple Riders Involved in a Disastrous MotoGP Crash Right as the Championship Race Starts
Just a few hours earlier, the race had been postponed due to torrential rains in Greater Noida near India’s capital, New Delhi. While there certainly was some dampness in a few spots across the track, the drivers were mostly greeted with dry conditions. While the track may have contributed to Sasaki’s crash, it certainly did not prove to be a problem for Italian racer Marco Bezzecchi. The rider blazed past his competition, recording a 01:43.947 finish — a record in the Indian circuit.
