First £1 Million Soccer Player Dies After a Fatal Heart Attack

A pioneer and legend of English soccer, Trevor Francis’ death has left everyone in the community in despair. The entire community and the nation are in mourning after the passing of such an important figure in English soccer history.

The former Three lions icon passed away on Monday, aged 69 years.

Trevor Francis suffered a heart attack under similar circumstances around 11 years ago and the incident forced him to take more care of his health. The veteran passed away after a heart attack in his own residence at Marbella.

A statement from his family said: “Trevor Francis has died at the age of 69. He had a heart attack at his apartment in Spain this morning. On behalf of the family, this has come as a huge shock to everybody. We are all very upset. He was a legendary footballer, but he was also an extremely nice person.

Francis was England’s first ever player valued at £1 million when he was bought by Forest from Birmingham in 1979. He was instrumental in helping them win the European Cup in his first year with them. His illustrious career started for Plymouth before he moved to Birmingham City. Aged only 16, he made his debut and scored a massive 119 goals in 280 appearances.

The soccer legend represented several renowned teams in his playing days such as Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Rangers, QPR and Sheffield Wednesday.

Tributes pour in for Trevor Francis

The impact that Trevor left on the soccer world and people he met was visible with the out-pour of love and grief on his passing. Soars of tribute flooded the internet for the legend and former clubs put out heartfelt messages on their social media handles.

The first club he played for, Birmingham City FC shared a wonderful message for him.

The Queen Park Rangers too put out a heartfelt message.

Nottingham Forest uploaded a picture of him lifting the European Cup, celebrating the wonderful legacy of a player with immense ability and a great heart.

After his extensive playing career came to an abrupt end, he switched to managerial positions and worked with St. Andres for 5 years before finishing his managerial career with Crystal Palace in 2001.

The English soccer community will feel emptier and a cloud of sadness engulfs the entire nation. As tributes pour and people remember the achievements and lovely person that Trevor was, his career and success must be celebrated.  A true legend of the sport, his name will forever be etched in the folklore of the soccer legacy.
