Most riders would not find the idea of visiting your team’s bike manufacturer’s HQ in Taiwan appealing. If anything, they would treat it purely as an exercise to build team morale and keep sponsors happy. However, for a 4x Tour de France champion, it was a nice way to get back into racing after two months away. Meanwhile, as an involved investor with Factor Bikes, visiting the HQ was like seeing the fruits of his labor.
Although he missed the cut for the Tour de France 2023, the 38-year-old chose to opt for the Czech Tour instead. He also raced in Hainan and the Japan Cup.

Returning after two months to race in Hainan, British-Kenyan cyclist Chris Froome said he struggled in Hainan initially. However, speaking to the Global Cycling Network, Chris added that he was “getting better and better and better.” Despite having a bit of a tough time, the 38-year-old said he came out of Hainan feeling “super.” Froome says he now has a newfound sense of motivation, and he plans on getting “back to the pointy end of racing again.” However, Froome has faced his share of demons in the form of injuries.

In September 2022, the 38-year-old was ‘doored’ while out for a casual bike ride in Monaco. Before that, an accident placed the cyclist in the ICU during the 2019 Tour de France. Froome indicated that his lower back may have been why he was not selected for the Tour de France. However, in turn, the Brit began to reconsider his bike set-up and position while riding.
After finding some big discrepancies, Froome met up with a specialist and made some big changes. While it’s anyone’s guess whether these fixes will be the difference, it’s clear to see that Froome is focused on riding pain-free again after a while in his career.
Meanwhile, Froome’s bike set-up is symbolic of a rider for whom equipment, bikes, and technology particularly matter.
His attention to such detail has caused him to work closely with Factor, culminating in a shareholder position. The position has helped him add extra minor tweaks to his equipment.

Besides these factors, motivation is a big part of things for Froome.
Despite resolving his back issues and working with Factor, Froome’s year has not been very successful. “Since my big crash in 2019, anything from here in terms of achievements, objectives, I don’t want to set a limit on what I’m able to achieve,” he said.
Froome says he competes now for the love of racing rather than the need to win. “Of course, I enjoy when I’m able to win… But even though I’m in a position where I’m not winning it doesn’t mean that I’m not enjoying myself and not happy and grateful to be here,” he said.
