Donaldson’s zeal towards wrestling can be attributed to the fact that she was ready to grapple with the boys! This is because not many female athletes have shown interest in pursuing wrestling yet, however, it has started to gain momentum recently. Thus, Donaldson decided not to attend the girls wrestling invitational and instead, signed up for the Mid-Illini Conference championship. Although her opponents were male, this was a decision that had a lot of brainstorming behind it.
Talking about this move, Donaldson stated, “My coaches and I decided to go to the boys conference meet to prepare myself for the girls… He told me if I pin boys, I have a better chance against the girls.” Quite astonishingly, Donaldson impressed for most of the tournament while ending up with the runners-up prize in the 105 pounds division. However, beneath the silver lining lies a dark cloud of concern.

She explained that male athletes were the only options for her since there were not enough female wrestlers to practice with. However, Donaldson did not regret the choice a bit. According to her, squaring off against a male would give you an added advantage instead of grappling with a female. Thus, Donaldson considered this as a blessing in disguise that helped her significantly in her competitions.
