Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has enjoyed a fairly successful 2019 season, despite losing to teammate Lewis Hamilton. The Finnish driver has been having a great season, which was far better than the pitiful performance of 2018. Of course, the saying goes, behind every great man, is a great woman, and perfectly describes Valtteri Bottas’ wife, Emilia.

Emilia Pikkarainen is a former professional swimmer and holds several Finnish records. Her records include the 50 meters butterfly, 100 meters butterfly, 200 meters butterfly, and 200 meters individual medley.

Valtteri Bottas’ wife was born on October 11, 1992, and aside from swimming, she is a horse-riding enthusiast. Emilia Bottas even pursued this passion by taking part in a number of showjumping competitions.

The Finn even represented Finland at the Olympic Games on three occasions. Namely, in 2008, 2012 and 2016, though she did not clinch any medals.

In her first competition, she was just 15 years old and competed in the 100m butterfly ranking 46th. Then, in the 2012 Olympics, she did the 100m and 200m butterfly and the 200m individual medley. During the next edition of the Olympics, she was part of the 4 x 100m medley relay.

Emilia and Valtteri started dating back in 2010 and kept their relationship strong, before tying the knot in September 2016 in Helsinki.

Admittedly, the two do not have any children yet, and there are no immediate plans either. For now, though, the Finnish driver is aiming for a 5th win this season as he aims to consolidate 2nd in the championship.

He is contracted to Mercedes next season, however, she won’t be by his side, because the couple divorced ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.
