The home of the San Marino Grand Prix, Imola is a 4.909 km ribbon of asphalt and is often termed as the home of Ferrari and the ‘tifosi’ but now that tag has shifted to Monza, the home of the Italian Grand Prix. Formula One last raced here in 2006.

The circuit is known for its infamous Tamburello corner. That corner took the life of Senna who many believed was the greatest driver to ever sit behind the wheel. The corner has seen many accidents over the years, and has gone through many changes to increase the safety aspect of the circuit, with the addition of a chicane being the major layout change.

In our opinion, the circuit has hosted some of the finest Grand Prix in its time. Combine that with a passionate Italian crowd, a challenging layout and just the history that this circuit possesses, and you get a track that’s going to get you on the edge of your seat every time the cars go around.

Imola should be brought back as it is a real drivers track, separates the best from the mediocre. The track could very well return after 2016 possibly as the replacement of Monza in the Italian Grand Prix or maybe alternate with the circuit.

Monza along with Monaco enjoys certain privileges from FIA due to their historic significance. But Bernie Ecclestone is determined to put an end to these privileges and has openly stated that if Monza wants to stay on the calendar post 2016 (the year its contract expires), it must raise money and pay the same amount as other European circuits. More on this: Monza’s future in doubt

Monza though is not interested in either alternating or going away from the F1 grid. The addition of Imola will sure be something new and interesting to the F1 calendar. With the cancellation of the German GP in 2015, the fate of more and more ‘legendary’ circuits is at risk, with new venues like Russia, Mexico, Oman coming into play. Imola being a difficult and challenging track will be something different from these new tracks, which more or less offer very stellar racing experience.
Here’s hoping the best for the sport.
