Despite being one of the most popular guys in the sport, four time world champion Sebastian Vettel has no social media account. While his peers, including Raikkonen enjoy enormous social media following, opening up about their lives, their family and their life outside the formula one circus, Vettel has been relatively quite about the same. He’s preferred to keep his family away from the media attention.

His fans (including us) have always tried to decode more about his personal life. Very few even know that he’s married and has three children. But to all the curious people, Vettel has finally offered an explanation as to why he has decided to boycott Social Media.

“The platforms do exactly the opposite of what they claim,” he said in an interview with Auto Moto und Sport. “They do not show the real picture. If you have millions of followers, then no photo goes out uncensored.”

He stated that people often get the impression that they know anybody from television and social media is merely a self-expression stage that makes money. He also insisted that social media falls solely into the category of entertainment.

Sebastian Vettel affirmed that he had no need to communicate on social media constantly. At the same time he felt that it is not his place to criticise anyone who uses these platforms to connect to others.

He further spoke of the role of technology and Information Technology in the sport and stressed on the use of computers. Sebastian Vettel added that those machine help in building the cars and providing data to stay competitive.

However, he confessed that he will continue to remain skeptical about the rise of social media and is eager to see how far people end up going. As a parting note, he said,”In the end, however, everyone has to decide for themselves how much they want to be part of this digital world.”
