WI vs IND 2019: “It Was a Good Feeling Making My Debut”: Rakheem Cornwall

West Indies all-rounder Rakheem Cornwall has made his Test debut in the second Test against India. Not only his debut made him happy but also his first wicket. He dismissed  India’s star batsman Cheteshwar Pujara for mere 6. There was a lot of talks going on regarding Rakheem Cornwall, who became the heaviest Test cricketer after he made his debut in Jamaica. However, he made an early impact by providing the West Indies with an early breakthrough in his 3rd over.

Cornwall was brought into the 13th over of the innings when he picked his first wicket on Test debut. He pitched it short and Pujara tried to a cut short but only found the point fielder. While speaking about this, he shared he felt very good.

“Good feeling to get him as my first Test wicket. It was nothing really new to me but it was a good feeling,” he expressed. “It was a good feeling making my debut. I think the ball was coming on to the bat well. Now we have to work hard and put the ball in the right areas. It was an even day, the bowlers put in the hard yards.”

Apart from dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara, Cornwall took two sharp catches to remove India openers, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. However, he said: “It all depends on the pitch, depends on what it is giving me. I just assess the conditions and decide how we can go from there.”

Rakheem Cornwall picked up 54 wickets at a staggering average of 17.68 runs in the Championships 2018-19. He has amassed 2224 runs in 55 matches and scalped 260 wickets in his first-class career at 23.90. Rakheem picked up 4 wickets in 2 matches and hit two half-centuries as well against India A last month.

Rakheem Cornwall, moreover, said they would have been happier if they had taken one more wicket on the first day.

“One (more) wicket would be comfortable but I think we are in a good position. When we come back tomorrow, I think we just have to take the next wickets and move forward,” Cornwall concluded.
