Stephen Curry is serious about his records. Last year, the baby-faced assassin’s Three-Point Contest record was shattered by WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu. Quite expected from the star who possesses the Mamba Mentality. Expressing his thoughts ahead of the game against the Sacramento Kings, Curry labeled the WNBA star’s record-breaking feat as “Ridiculous”. However, Curry seems set on reclaiming that honor.

He also revealed that he would like to challenge the New York Liberty Point Guard at this year’s All-Star weekend in Indiana. “I think I gotta bring her out…we gotta settle this once and for all,” said Curry. In response to Curry’s challenge, the Liberty sensation wrote on X, “Let’s getttttt it!! See ya at the 3 pt line@StephenCurry30.”

Ionescu stunned the basketball world during last year’s WNBA Three Point contest, where she scored 37/40 in the final round, making 92.5% of her shots, the most in the history of either the NBA or WNBA.

On the other hand, Curry is a 2x contest champion and arguably the greatest shooter of all time. He also holds the record for most points in a round, scoring 31 out of 40 in 2021. So a matchup between Ionescu and the Chef would certainly interest fans.

Curry showcased his excellence both in 2015 and 2021. In 2015, he claimed the title with a stellar performance, recording 27 out of a possible 34 points in the revamped format introduced in 2013-14. It was a display of precision and skill that set the standard for the future. Fast forward to 2021, and Curry once again delivered a jaw-dropping 31 points in the first round.

Along with his second 3-point contest win, he also showed a remarkable streak of 13 consecutive made 3-pointers, the second-best in the competition’s history. But Ionescu put it all to shame.

Ionescu’s impressive 37 points out of 40 points possible in the final round of the WNBA Three-Point Contest, broke the record jointly held by Curry and Tyrese Haliburton. With that, she also broke the record of 30 set by WNBA star Allie Quigley in 2022. Following Ionescu’s feat, Quigley wrote, “Unbelievable!!! This record won’t ever be broke.”
