Kelsey Plum reveals Diana Taurasi’s in-game tactic

Impressive performances and memorable matchups have marked Kelsey Plum’s journey through the WNBA. However, her recent encounter with Diana Taurasi, a 41-year-old guard for the Phoenix Mercury takes the cake. When the host, Stephen Jackson asked Plum about her thoughts on Diana Taurasi, her response was both humorous and revealing.

She admitted with a smile, “I mean, I’m smiling because we played them the other day. I mean, she’s great, but she’s an a*****e.”

But the real story unfolded when Plum recounted a recent in-game moment involving her and Taurasi. She shared, “She’s so funny. In the game, I got an [offensive rebound], and I saw her, so I backed it out a little bit. And I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna blow right by her old a**,’ and I go by, and she just took me out, like a flagrant foul.”

Matt Barnes offered his take on the situation, explaining, “Because she read your mind. She’s like, ‘I’m not having this young girl come here and try to embarrass me,’ and put your a** on the ground.”

Plum couldn’t help but admire Taurasi’s unapologetic approach to the game, concluding her tale with genuine respect. “I was laying on my back for like 10 seconds just laughing. Nah, DT [is] one of the greatest of all time. I love her swagger and her unapologetic demeanor.”

Diana Taurasi, the unapologetic legend

Taurasi’s impact on women’s basketball is unmatchable. At 41 years old and with 19 seasons under her belt, she has displayed longevity which is only seen in NBA legend LeBron James. She is the leader, on and off the court, and her impressive resume speaks volumes of what she has contributed to the WNBA league.

However, it’s not just her LeBron-like longevity that sets Taurasi apart. This season, Taurasi achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first player in WNBA history to score more than 10,000 points. If not her trophy cabinet, this remarkable feat solidifies her status as a true basketball icon.
