The idea of Bolt’s statue came into consideration following the decision of redesigning the historic fountain. The Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) endorsed the idea of the statue.
The Mayor of Falmouth, and Chairman of Trelawny Municipal Corporation, Colin Gager, confirmed the news of approval for the alterations at the historic landmark. He further stated that a new design has been made since the Corporation was against relocating the historic water fountain to build the sprinting legend’s statue. The members of the Jamaican Defense Force will carry out the construction of the statue. Additionally, the Corporation is satisfied with the current plan and has received the endorsement of the private sector and civil society groups.
