Over the past few decades, a number of rivalries have been witnessed by tennis fans that have often captivated them. The list also includes American tennis legends, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, who squared off during 80 matches on the WTA Tour. Since their first meeting on the court, they both have always admired each other for their great on and off-court personalities.

Even the book titled, ‘The rivals,’ has perfectly depicted both the 18 singles Grand Slam champions’ epic clashes and extraordinary friendship. One such excerpt from the renowned book details the former tennis players’ admiration for each other during their illustrious journey on the court.

Despite being one of the fiercest rivals on the WTA Tour, the American tennis legends were close friends who always respected and admired each other. Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova have 18 singles Grand Slam titles each in their bags because of their remarkable tennis in the 90s era. For their unprecedented achievements, the former tennis players were also inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.

In addition to their illustrious journey on the tennis court,  the book titled, ‘The rivals,’ has also depicted their extraordinary friendship. The book came out in 2004 but it has still caught the attention of many tennis enthusiasts. A slew of fans has been quite astonished to witness how American tennis greats have always respected and admired each other despite being fierce rivals on the court.

One such heartfelt incident has been perfectly depicted in their book. The former Czech–American tennis player hailed Evert by saying, “Chris was like a perfect blond goddess who was challenging Billie Jean King and Virginia Wade.”

She added, “Before I even met her, she stood for everything I admired about this country”, which includes Evert’s great personality and sportsmanship.

Apart from this, they both have often used their online platforms to stay in touch. They also use their respective platforms to talk about various notable figures. Recently, the former tennis players hailed the former American president, Jimmy Carter, and his philanthropic endeavors.
