She hit headlines after winning her maiden WTA Tour singles title in 2019 at the age of 15. The Linz Open winner earned her the distinction of the youngest singles title-champion since 2004. But it was the victory over Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon in 2019 that shot her to prominence.

Venus Williams’ coach has already had the last word on Coco Gauff. “Remember @CocoGauff is only 19. It is not where you start it is where you finish. And her finish line will be number one someday,” tweeted Rick Macci following her DC Open conquest.
