23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is finally returning to tennis. In a quest for the elusive all-time record, the American will be back at this year’s Wimbledon Championships. Williams’ last appearance coincidentally came at the same event last year.
However, after a long break from the sport, Serena will be part of the draw as a wildcard entry after the fall in her rankings.

Serena announces competitive return
Williams, 40, limped out of last year’s first-round match due to a leg injury announced the news on her Instagram account. She said, “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s Go.” The news is a big boost for the 7-time Wimbledon champion, who will come back to competitive action after a gap of 12 months.

Despite falling to 1208 in the rankings, a protected ranking will allow her participation at this year’s Wimbledon. However, with no ranking points, there is still a possibility we could see major names pull out. Serena, who has been a dominant champion at SW19, will return 20 years later after winning her first title.
