It’s the fifth day of the French Open 2021 and the fans saw a huge upset today. World No.1 Ashleigh Barty lost in the second round of the Grand Slam. Playing against Magda Linette, she lost the first set 1-6 and never looked comfortable during the entire match. As a result, she retired from the match in the middle of the second set when the scoreline was 1-6, 2-2.

Interestingly, Barty’s 8-match winning streak at the French Open ended in a very disappointing way. She was the winner of the French Open 2019 and didn’t participate in the next edition of the Grand Slam.

In the fifth game, the Polish player delivered some really powerful serves, making Barty look absolutely clueless. She won four back-to-back points and as a result, took her lead to 4-1. She gained three break-points in the subsequent game as well. Even though Barty tried really hard to stop her, Linette capitalized on the second break-point and broke yet again in the set.
