“Don’t Always Show My Cards”: Serena Williams on Why She Doesn’t Reveal Much About Her Trainings on Social Media

Serena Williams will be beginning her clay-court campaign at the Italian Open 2021 soon. She didn’t play too many matches on clay last year and thus, she’ll be playing on the surface after quite a lot of time.
Williams practiced hard at the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice, France ahead of the Italian Open 2021. It is a pattern that the tennis queen doesn’t say or post much about her training sessions before her matches. In a recent interview, she revealed the reason for her silence about her training and practice on social media.
“I really try not to get involved in too much of what people say about me because I feel like it can make you nuts. Whether it’s good or bad, it could be, like — you know, I don’t really try to think too much of myself in that way at all,” said Williams in the interview.

Serena highlighted that she doesn’t care what people think about her. As a result, she just restrains herself from their comments- whether they are good or bad and just focuses on her gameplay.

Serena stated that just because she doesn’t upload posts of her training on social media doesn’t mean she doesn’t train at all. The 23-time Grand Slam champion reflected that it is only because she doesn’t want to reveal her cards to the players and her opponents.
“I think that’s one thing I’m really good at is just to not really even engage so much, but I do feel like, because I don’t do a lot of sport content, so I do feel like people are wondering if I’m playing, and I have to say I always am, you just don’t see it. I don’t show what I do and I don’t always show my cards. Yeah, but I feel like for the most part I just never ever, ever, ever, ever like pay attention, which is good,” added the American legend.
