‘Don’t have any other idea anymore’ – A Frustrated Belinda Bencic rants at a France airline for their huge baggage mess up

Belinda Bencic, the Swiss tennis ace, turned pro in 2012. Thereafter, she climbed the WTA rankings to achieve a career-high ranking of World No.4 in February 2020. Further, she has six career titles under her name and also brought back a gold medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Like any professional tennis player, Bencic will inevitably fly frequently.

Luggage mishaps by airlines have been a common thing forever. A while ago, Andy Murray lost one of his bags, which consisted of his equipment while traveling to Madrid. Following that, Bencic has now fallen prey to a similar problem. However, her issue is eating up quite a lot of time and still stands unresolved.

Bencic recently tested her luck in Paris. In the high pressure tournament, which saw the former World No.1 Naomi Osaka knocked out in the very first round, she secured a run till the third round. And now, after giving a reasonable performance at the French Open, she is gearing up for the next event.

Though there is something missing. It’s her luggage, which Air France misplaced about a day ago. Hence, an irked Bencic tweeted, “Hi Air France more than 24h later after you lost my luggage. I’m desperately trying every way of contacting Air France, with no success.”

“I’m leaving for my next tournament tomorrow. So it would be great if I could at least get some info about my bag,” she added. She wrote, “I’m not a celebrity and I would normally never write something like this on Twitter. But after hours on the phone waiting line, countless emails and online chats with robots, I don’t have any other idea anymore.”

Further, Bencic outclassed her opponents in straight sets in the first two rounds of the French Open. She got the better of Hungarian Reka Jani in straight sets of 6-1 6-1 and thrashed the 2019 US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu, 6-2, 6-4.

However, she eventually failed to beat the 19-year-old Canadian tennis ace, Leylah Annie Fernandez. Though the 25-year-old gave a tough fight, she lost the last two sets and the position in the last 16 with it.

Bencic’s Charleston Open run

Many argued that Charleston Open couldn’t give the difficulties to its full potential because Ash Barty had just retired and Iga Swiatek was injured and out of the event. However, the truth is the event acted host to multiple high caliber players such as Paula Badosa and Madison Keys.

Therefore, it can be said that the victor of the tournament, Belinda Bencic, played some brilliant tennis. She claimed the trophy by defeating several stars in the red dirt of Charleston Open. Bencic took down Keys in straight sets of 6-4 6-4 and Badosa by 2-6 7-6(2) 6-4.

Following that, she locked horns with the 2022 Madrid Open champion, Ons Jabeur, in the finals of the event and out-muscled her in a three set long match by a scoreline of 6-1 5-7 6-4, claiming her sixth WTA title.
