The 18-year-old WTA star, Coco Gauff also falls into the same category of players who have often looked up to not just Serena, but both Williams sisters.

Unlike the other stars, the tennis prodigy has also had the unique experience of receiving advice from her idol during various tournaments. However, Gauff recently revealed how she lost contact with Williams ahead of the highly anticipated event, the BNP Paribas Open.

The American tennis prodigy is currently training hard on the courts of California to make her mark at the Indian Wells Masters. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff was recently featured in a press conference where she opened up about her expectations regarding winning the tournament.

Later the conversation moved to her idol, Serena Williams, who is currently inactive on the WTA Tour after her decision to put down her racket in the previous season. Taking note of her decision to evolve away from tennis, Gauff was asked if she was still getting some sort of advice from the American tennis legend. However, she surprised everyone by opening up how she lost contact with Williams after she played her farewell match in the 2022 US Open.

The 18-year-old WTA star said, “I don’t really speak to Serena, I guess, that much unless I see her in person.”

Gauff said that she has rarely been texting or calling her idol after the 23-time Grand Slam champion moved away from the tennis court. So, she really hasn’t received any advice or guidance from Serena ahead of the BNP Paribas Open.

Gauff has always been inspired by the Williams sisters

The American tennis prodigy has always admired the dominating and mesmerizing playing style of the both the Williams sisters. She opened up about the same during her conversation with the popular YouTube channel, HER WAY.

During the show, Gauff revealed how she has constantly made efforts to bring some of these aspects to her own game. She further hailed Venus and Serena for being iconic figures for the next generation of players in the country.
