In a family with more than one child, kids often vie for attention from their parents. However, there are also times when, due to some circumstances, parents provide relatively more attention to one child. And recently, in a post-match interview, the American tennis sensation Coco Gauff talked about her parents’ role as her coach. How does the Gauff family balance everything?

It’s a usual sight to see World No 5’s parents in the player’s box, supporting her throughout her matches. However, Gauff also has 2 brothers at home. And she unsurprisingly understands that they need to be with her parents as well. She displayed maturity beyond her age in support of her siblings.

Coco Gauff is grateful for the support of her whole family

Post her quarter-final win at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Gauff settled into exchanging verbal volleys with the media. During the interview, they questioned the teenage tennis sensation about her parents accompanying her to the tournament. And whether being coached and then accompanying her around the world becomes too much for her family?

Gauff responded in a grateful and understanding manner, as she detailed how her family supports her while making sure that they are with her brothers too. She said, “Yeah, so last week my dad didn’t come to Doha with me. I think he was always scared to kind of say it, but it’s something I push more on him.”

Further, the teenager added more context to her comments, explaining her father’s understanding of other sports. She further added, “I have two younger brothers at home. I would say my dad definitely, I mean, naturally he understands football and baseball and basketball, those sports, more than tennis.”

The older sibling understands that her brother might need her parents’ attention more than her at a certain time. The World No.5 shared that she had help from Diego, and her parents might not have to be here every week, as it may affect and take a toll on the family. She also thanked her brothers for their support, as the two younger siblings have been understanding of her journey.

And she also explained how her parents handle being away from home, and being with her. She said,” He decided to come this week. My mom was actually going to go back. She decided she wanted to see Dubai, so she stayed. There will definitely be more tradeoffs happening this year. Also, since my brother is entering high school, he needs, like, a dad figure. Every son needs their dad, so…”
