Unfortunately, Serena Williams could not even complete a single set at the Wimbledon Championships 2021. However, fans are hopeful and believe that she will return to the court as soon as possible. The 23-time Grand Slam champ is never far from the tennis conversations, however, and here’s a look back to when Chris Evert claimed that Serena’s legacy in the sport was forever.

Chris Evert feels that Serena Williams will always be there in the sport
When Serena was playing her first-round match at the Wimbledon Championships 2021, 18-time Grand Slam winner, Chris Evert, was doing commentary of her match. After she got injured, Evert highlighted that for her, even if Serena would retire, her great legacy would still be there forever.

“To me, her legacy is already sealed,” said Evert while commentating during her match at the Wimbledon Championships 2021.

Evert hails Serena as the greatest player of all time

Back then, Evert claimed that even if Serena fails to win her next Grand Slam title and level the Grand Slam tally of Margaret Court, she would still be the greatest player of all time for her. Thus, numbers don’t really matter for Evert but she feels that Serena’s impact on the sport is what separates her from the others.
“If she never wins another Grand Slam, if she never matches Margaret Court, [it] doesn’t matter. She’s still the greatest,” added the former World No.1 player.

Even though Serena Williams recently turned 40, fans believe that she still has a lot of tennis left inside her. Her comeback date on the tour is uncertain right now, but fans hope that she will return to the court at the Australian Open 2022.
