Serena Williams got off to an ideal start at the Australian Open with a trademark dominating win over Laura Siegemund. The 32-year-old German had no answers against the hard-hitting Serena, who looked every bit ready to claim her 24th Grand Slam title in the next 13 days.
The American queen’s first serve accuracy was not at her best, but it was still good enough against the 49th seed. She wore a one-legged catsuit and totally nailed that unique Nike style that she always does.

One can attach her 6-1, 6-1 victory with her knee-breaking practice sessions with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, but maybe the reason was something else. It was as if she was rushing through the victory in order to catch another event. Turns out yes, she actually was.
In the post-game on-court interview, just as the interviewer gave her a Super Bowl update, she jumped in joy and exclaimed, “Okay I gotta go, I gotta go (rolling her hands to gesture a quick packup), you’re taking so long. I know I’m trying to go finish and see the rest of this. I’m American, we love the Super Bowl. You know Tom Brady is in my age group, so you know it’s exciting.”

Serena Williams‘ entire interview was filled with fun elements where she also had a complaint about the mic placed too high for her 5’9” height.
What’s next for the soon to become WTA GOAT?
The 23-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t lost in the first round of the Australian Open in her last 18 appearances. But many viewers thought that streak might just break when she gave away her first service game because of a double-fault that she had made earlier. However, her German counterpart could not utilize that break and lost each of the following games in the first set.
