‘I Have To Listen to My Body’- Garbine Muguruza Announced Heartbreaking News About Injury Before Miami Open 2022

Garbine Muguruza has been the top Spanish player in the WTA circuit for quite some time now. Her aggressive and powerful style of play appeals to many, and she has been a regular in elite competitions for quite some time. But, she recently announced that she will be taking some time off the tour to recover from an injury.
Muguruza has not been in the best form since the beginning of this season. Certainly not what she would have expected coming into this season, especially after ending 2021 on a tremendous high. The Spanish woman won her maiden WTA Finals championships, defeating Paula Badosa and Anett Kontaveit en route to her triumph. But her form has been dipping in 2022. She began the season at the Sydney International, lost in the quarterfinals to Daria Kasatkina. At the Australian Open, she won her first-round match but suffered a shock straight-set defeat to Alize Cornet.

After suffering a second-round exit at the recently concluded Indian Wells Masters, Muguruza was eyeing to make a comeback at the Miami Masters. However, an injury to her left shoulder forced her to withdraw from the tournament. She tweeted her announcement and seemed confident that this injury will be a minor blip in her 2022 season. Storm Sanders, the lucky loser replaces the 28-year-old in the main draw in Miami.

Garbine Muguruza needs to ‘stop and recover’
“Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that unfortunately, I have had to withdraw from Miami, Charleston and the BJKC due to an injury to my left shoulder that I have been carrying,” she said in the tweet.

She also spoke that this is an injury that she has been ignoring for quite some time. However, now the doctors have advised her to rest and recuperate in order to not worsen the condition. She joins Simona Halep in withdrawing from the upcoming hard-court competitions. Halep, also recently announced that she was suffering from a tear in her thigh, and needed some time to recover before her return to the tour.

“After the tests that we have done these last few days, the recommendation of my doctors is to stop and recover well, I’m very sorry but I have to listen to my body. I am confident that everything will go well and I will do my best to start the clay-court season in Madrid,” Muguruza added.
