“Wiosna,” means “spring” in Polish. Just after midnight on New Year’s Day, the latest episode, titled “Wiosna”, of the series “Cztery pory Igi,” was released. It shows chronicles Iga Świątek‘s remarkable journey throughout the spring of 2024. This period saw her compete in a series of prestigious tournaments, including Miami, Stuttgart, Madrid, Rome, and culminating in the French Open in Paris. A highlight of this spring campaign was two unforgettable clashes with Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek won both Madrid and Rome. Lately, they’ve been training together and creating TikTok content, a trend noted by Swiatek’s psychologist, Daria Abramowicz.

Speaking in the latest episode of the Canal+ series “Four Seasons of Iga, Abramowicz shared insights into the mutual respect both players and their teams have for each other.

“Our staffs, Aryna’s team, and we respect and like each other a lot. I remember the time when we even had a bit of a fight in the tournament restaurant, where Jason Stacy, Aryna’s motor preparation coach, would come up to us and say: so what, now we, you took Madrid, or not, you know what, you take Rome and we’ll take Paris,” the psychologist revealed behind the scenes.

“And of course, with great respect and great kindness, it shows how much the girls value each other. They both believe that one drives the other to very intensive, very hard work. We in the teams also respect each other very much as people, as specialists,” she added. It didn’t end there, because Anton Dubrov, Sabalenka’s coach, also said a few words.

During the Rome tournament, where Swiatek won 6-2 6-3, Sabalenka’s coach praised the level of competition. He stated, “It’s a very good result for us to be in the final of a major tournament for the second time in a row. I think that when you play the final against Iga, it shows that you are at a high level.”

Beyond the matches, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have been engaging more frequently off the court. Prior to their Australian Open campaigns, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek shared the court for a practice session in Abu Dhabi this weekend. One of the training sessions also went viral on TikTok.

Aryna Sabalenka kicked off her 2025 season with a resounding victory at the Brisbane International. The world No. 1 cruised past Renata Zarazua of Mexico 6-4, 6-0 in the Round of 32 on Tuesday. After her dominating win, the on-court reporter asked, “We saw you did some training with Iga… but I was surprised to see no TikTok? Is that a work in progress?”

What’s your perspective on:

Can Świątek reclaim her top spot, or will Sabalenka's reign continue to dominate women's tennis?

Replying to the question, Sabalenka said, “Maybe no one is waiting for our TikTok to be honest. We decided that we would do it once a year.”

Not just this, Sabalenka has been vocal about Swiatek’s doping saga.

Aryna Sabalenka addresses Swiatek’s doping controversy while maintaining top spot

Speaking to The National, Sabalenka said, “People are really used to overreacting before figuring stuff out, so I don’t want to leave any comments. I believe in clean sport and nothing else I can add.”

Iga Swiatek’s reported use of trimetazidine resulted in a low penalty, causing her to miss three tournaments and losing her top spot in WTA. Sabalenka secured the No. 1 ranking in September 2024, dethroning Świątek and maintaining her position since then. As the 2025 season begins, Swiatek faces a challenging journey to reclaim the ranking of the determined Belarusian.

Despite the hurdles, Świątek remains a frightening force in tennis, with an impressive record that includes 22 singles titles and a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Her French Open dominance, with four titles in six appearances, is unparalleled. Additionally, her 125 weeks as World No. 1 place her seventh on the all-time list. She is also a US Open champion and clinched the 2023 WTA Finals title, proving her consistent excellence on various surfaces.

While Sabalenka enjoys her time at the top, Swiatek’s resilience and hunger for success ensure that the rivalry between the two will remain a highlight in women’s tennis.
