Naomi Osaka returned to the Flushing Meadows after withdrawing from the French Open and the 2021 Wimbledon Championship. The two-time US Open winner got off to a blazing start against Marie Bouzkova. She received a walkover in the second round of the tournament due to an injury suffered by Olga Danilovic.
However, finalist Leylah Fernandez eventually knocked her out of the tournament in the third round. Although she was one set up, the Japanese couldn’t convert it into a victorious triumph. The final score recorded was 5-7, 7-6, 6-4, in favor of Fernandez.

Post her shock defeat, Naomi announced she would take a break from the sport. As her return remains uncertain at the moment, fans hope for her sabbatical to end soon, and have the champion return to her winning ways.
