John McEnroe Defends Criticism of Emma Raducanu Ahead of Wimbledon 2022

Tennis legend John McEnroe is a famous name in the tennis world. With his honest comments on current players, he has made a name for himself as an analyst. However, McEnroe’s opinions have sometimes not gone down well with the tennis faithful, this time with Emma Raducanu.
The American’s critics hit back after his comments on Raducanu last season after Wimbledon. However, few months later Raducanu got one on the 67-year old by winning the US Open.

McEnroe defends comments after Wimbledon 2021
The veteran was critical of the US Open champion after she retired from her fourth-round match against Ajla Tomljanovic at SW19. McEnroe continued that she was unable to handle the pressure at such a big stage. A year later, the American sticks to his words saying, “I wouldn’t say anything different.”

“I’ve never met Emma I was just giving an educated guess as to what I thought was happening, based on 40 or 45 years being around the professional game. It’s not like she’s the first person it’s happened to, this has been going on as far back as when I was playing,” he added.

After sustaining a side injury at the Nottingham Open, Raducanu faces a race against time to be fit next week. While the young star has also struggled with her coaching box, her results have fallen this season. In Melbourne, she bowed out in the second round of the Australian Open.
