Best friends inspire each other to get out of their comfort zone and strive for greatness. But surprisingly enough, Serena Williams‘ bestie was unable to inspire the GOAT of tennis to follow in her footsteps for a crazy task, back in 2014. What was the task? And most important of all, why did the 23-time Grand Slam champion refuse it?

The retired Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams have been close friends for almost a decade. However, when the Dane did something crazy, after her semi-final defeat to her best friend at the WTA Finals, Serena wasn’t relishing about the thought of doing the same.

Back in 2014, the younger Williams sibling claimed her 18th Grand Slam title, the US Open, while her bestie and on-court rival, Wozniacki, ended her season with a defeat from Willams. However, instead of relaxing and getting back on the court for the off-season, Wozniacki challenged herself to a marathon; the New York City Marathon. She aced it in an impressive 3:26:33.

But when the American tennis legend was asked about running the same marathon by a fan on Twitter, Williams responded with a cheeky reply, “My ass is too big. RT “@heldermario: @serenawilliams are you thinking of running in next years New York Marathon???#serenafriday”

Perhaps, tennis and Serena fans thought that the legend may take part in the NYC Marathon next year, because of her presence at the finish line in 2014. Being a supportive friend, the 23-time grand Slam champion was present when Wozniacki finished her marathon.

Sadly, we won’t be seeing Serena Williams running a marathon. But, surely, the friendship of the two tennis greats would last a lifetime (🤞🏻).

When Wozniacki had fun at the expense of Williams

Best friends always stand by one another. But they are also the one who may poke fun at you, no limits barred. And, taking advantage of the same, the former number one, didn’t spare Williams during an exhibition match in Brazil.

During the exhibition match against Maria Sharapova, Wozniacki stuffed her tennis attire, to give herself a more shapely figure, similar to that of the 23-time Grand Slam champion. And as anticipated, it was not just the former World No1, who was having fun, but the whole of Brazil enjoyed her light-hearted imitation of her best friend.
