‘No Courage to Spell Her Name’ – Fans Slam Serena Williams’ Ex-coach Patrick Mouratoglou Over His Poorly Structured Tribute

Serena Williams has hung her racket at the on-going US Open. The 40-year-old was playing in the last Grand Slam of the year but could not go past her Australian opponent Ajla Tomljanović in the third round. Earlier this year, the American star announced her evolution from tennis in a long essay for Vogue.

As the match against Tomjanovic ended, Serena got an emotional farewell. Fans across the globe and tennis celebrities joined in to pay their tribute to the retiring tennis legend. Serena’s former coach Patrick Mouratoglou also came up with a Tweet to give his regards to the American. However, fans were not impressed with his message.

Fans slam Patrick Mouratoglou for his tweet

Patrick Mouratoglou coached Serena Williams from 2012 to 2022. Recently, the Frenchman split up with the American and subsequently joined Simona Halep full time. While the Frenchman came up with an appreciation post, fans didn’t like him not mentioning Serena Williams’ name anywhere in the tweet.

“What a ride it has been. Thank you for everything. I wish you the very best for the next chapter!” Mouratoglou wrote.

Similar reaction came from another user who remain miffed with the French coach, “Ohhh u shut up.”

In a detailed comment, another fan wrote how Patrick didn’t give credit to Serena Williams by not mentioning her name.

“You are not tagging @serenawilliams nor sharing her face Patrick! Serena has a great legacy and, independently of your personal matters, she deserves authentic credit.”

“am I tripping or does this read not genuine??”, came the reaction from another user as she pointed out how Patrick could have posted it out of obligation.

Serena Williams’ association with Patrick Mouratoglou

Serena and Mouratoglou remained a team for almost 10 years. Also, a big share of Serena’s titles came during this period. The duo won 10 Grand Slam titles and also an Olympic Gold medal. However, the Frenchman split up with Serena after her prolonged injury break. Later, he announced a full-time association with Simona Halep.

In all, it won’t be wrong to say that Mouratoglou was an important person behind Serena’s success in the latter half of her career.
