Being out for a year indeed affects any player’s performance. It was the same case with Serena Williams as she made her comeback to the professional circuit. After her year-long break, the 7-time champion suffered a first-round exit to France’s Harmony Tan.

One of the most dominant players in the game, Williams pushed Tan to her limits before going down against her in a three-set thriller lasting 3 hours 14 minutes. Like many tennis fans and pundits, Serena also expected a strong performance in her comeback. However, suffering a first-round defeat, her disappointment was clearly visible in her heartfelt message, delivered after her loss.

Following the loss, the 23-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram, uploading a post. Williams uploaded an Instagram post, opening up about her loss to Harmony Tan.

Sharing her views along with her photo of walking out of the Centre Court, she wrote, “That was insane and intense. Not the result I came for, but my goodness I enjoyed that. I hope you did as well. Onward and up.”

Owing to her massive aura, the post in no time gained mileage, with fans and followers showering their love. While some praised her astonishing performance, others called her the GOAT.

After her match, Tan said, “She’s a superstar. When I saw the draw I was really scared. She’s a legend. I was like ‘oh my god, how can I play?’. If I can win one game or two games, it would be really good for me. For my first Wimbledon, it’s…. wow. Just wow.”

After defeating Serena Williams, Harmony Tan will next face the 32nd seeded Spaniard, Sara Sorribes Tormo.
